curry for the community!

Last August a new culture was revealed to me as my twin brother finally tied the knot with his university sweetheart - a British girl of Indian descent. And despite my father's absurd prostenations, curry was on the wedding menu whether we liked it or not.

But since the whole Bollywood experience has died down I have become a big fan of the odd curry - and I know a good one when I see one. Which is why an invitation to sample the curries at Burnham's Unique Spice was gratefully received.

Abu Siddique, an extremely polite and affable manager, welcomed me into his High Street restaurant, and after a quick glance at the huge menu, I waived the white flag and asked him to choose for me. As I was munching away at the poppadums and dipping into a selection of six deliciously fresh sauces, a waiter served up the main course.

Korai Kebab Khyberi was a mouth-watering mixture of diced chicken tikka and sheek kebab, cooked in Khyberi spices, tomatoes and capsicum. At the reasonable price of £7.50 the dish was a steal. The food was well presented, clean and authentic and, futhermore, it tasted superb. I've had good and bad curries, but this was top drawer.

As I looked again at the extensive menu, Abu told me he was now accepting Christmas bookings for parties of up to 70 people. At £17.95 per head, it's great value for money. Abu, who recently donated £400 to a Burnham Cash for Schools project, offers a five per cent reduction to parents and pupils of four Burnham schools - Lent Rise, Priory, Dropmore Infants School and Burnham Grammar.

The restaurant is very popular with office parties and family get togethers and is fully air conditioned with a licensed bar. To book your table now for this unique gastronomical experience, visit www.uniquespice.co.uk or call (01628) 666366.
